Coffee is one of the primary industries in Costa Rica in addition to bananas and tourism. Costa Rican coffee has set the standards for fine wet-processed coffee for the rest of Central and South America.

 This coffee carries the SHB (Strictly Hard Bean ) label meaning it is grown above 3,900 feet. These beans have fine acidity, full body and vibrant flavor which give it a distinctive character - well balanced and sweetly smooth.      

Costa Rica coffee production plays a key role in Costa Rica's history and still is important for the Costa Rican economy. In 2007, coffee was Costa Rica's number three export, after being the number one cash crop export for several decades.  Costa Rican coffee is high in caffeine; it is often blended with inferior varieties. The largest growing areas are in the provinces of San José, Alajuela, Heredia, Puntarenas, and Cartago

Organic coffee is produced under strict certification guidelines, and is grown without the use of potentially harmful artificial pesticides or fertilizers;

Fair trade coffee is produced by small coffee producers who belong to cooperatives; guaranteeing for these cooperatives a minimum price, though with historically low prices, current fair-trade minimums are lower than the market price of only a few years ago.

TransFair USA is the primary organization currently overseeing Fair Trade coffee practices in the United States, while the Fairtrade Foundation does so in the United Kingdom
