India coffee prices fall as buyers stay away

MUMBAI, March 6 (Reuters) -

Prices at the India Coffee Association's Thursday auctions fell on lack of demand from overseas and domestic buyers, traders said.

All varieties of coffee on offer received less enquiries from the exporters as well as from the domestic trade as the seller prices were higher than what buyers were willing to pay," said a trader from Bangalore. The new season arabica plantation PB, A and C grades fell in the range of 250-400 rupees per 50 kg and arabica cherry prices fell by 150-250 rupees per 50 kg compared to last week's prices, another trader said. In robusta coffee, only some lots of robusta cherry PB and C grades were sold at last week's price levels, whereas robusta parchment grades remained largely unsold, traders said.  In India, arabica coffee arrivals start in November and continue till February, while robusta arrivals begin from mid-January and continues through April.

Good news for home roasters and coffee drinkers.
